The current construction project is the final building phase of the long-range plan to meet the community’s growth and needs. Long range planning was the result of public comment, focus groups, and public meetings. A Strategic Plan, Building Plan, and Financial Plan were reviewed to strategically undertake an expansion with no additional tax for residents. Library consultant, Anders Dahlgren, detailed the appropriate space for the library in 2020 to be 53,600 sf to meet use and service goals. While our property site does not allow this, a commitment was made to meet the community’s growing needs, with our library expanding to 24,000 sf in 2012. The expanded facility provides the dedicated Michael C. Olivieri Heroes Quiet Reading Room, 24-user computer area, Community Meeting Room, Teen Room, increased educational classes and programs for all ages, as well as additional social and study areas.
The final phase being completed adds approximately 4,200 sf, and includes a Community Reading Room for all ages and Youth Services expansion. A collaboration with the Homer Glen Foundation honors those who’ve served with a Veterans Memorial in the Art Garden gazebo area.
