The Lemont Artists Guild is pleased to present artist Benjamin F. Calvert III who will demonstrate ”Woodblock Relief Printmaking” and go over techniques used while carving on a wood block. He started wood block printing by taking an independent study course at Knox College and his first print, “Invasions” was published in Catch, Knox’s literary magazine. This medium became a sustaining passion for him. He has a strong feeling for nature and the wood compliments his images. He prints on Japanese Kozuke and French Rives papers using oil based inks. Recently he has expanded his relief printing onto tinted canvas with oil paint.
Benjamin has exhibited his works in solo, juried, and group exhibitions and is an instructor at the Elmhurst Art Museum and DuPage Art League. In the summer of 2021, he took part in a public exhibition with the Illinois State Museum called “Lockport Ducks” in which he decorated a 3 foot tall fiberglass duck and they were on display throughout downtown Lockport (his was outside of the Vegan Café, to view, vist www.lockportducks.com). He has won awards for his artwork and currently, thru March 18, 2022, Benjamin has 63 prints at the Wadsworth Family Gallery at Lewis University (One University Parkway, Romeoville, IL 60446). You can view his website at www.benjamincalvert.com.
