Motivate kids to move on a hot day with these easy, inexpensive water play ideas for your backyard or park. They are suitable for a broad range of ages and simpler than packing everyone up for a trip to the pool (but don’t forget the sunscreen either way).

READ ALOUD: Froggy Learns to Swim by Jonathan London. Also, check out Hoopla and Tumble Book Library on the Library's website for other books to enjoy.

ACTIVITY: Try this cooling-off version of Duck, Duck, Goose. Have players (kids and grown-ups) sit in a circle. The first person to be "It" walks around the circle with a cup, pitcher, or watering can, dribbling a few drops on each person's head—until they choose a victim to be drenched with all the water from their container. Then the wet player chases "It" around the circle while "It" tries to claim the victim's empty spot in the circle.

COLORING SHEET: Print the attachment and decorate with crayons, paint, stickers or whatever inspires you!

Visit the library website calendar for more activities this week.
