Event Details
Lots of families travel during the summer. But maybe this year you have no such plans. Instead, this week, you can visit Egypt, Australian, Africa, Europe (with Spiderman), get a close look at airplanes or travel with animal characters just by reading a book. Books highlighted this week are a few of the wonderful items that help you travel to and experience new people, places and things!
READ ALOUD: The Big Trip by Valeri Gorbachev. Use Hoopla, available on the library’s website, to enjoy a selection of great travel books online!
VIDEO: Pigs! Pig Facts and Learning About Pigs for Kids. Pigs are intelligent mammals that can be found on every continent except Antarctica! They’re also sometimes called hogs or swine. There are about two billion pigs on the planet!
ACTIVITY: Make a “hot air” balloon. Materials: an inflated balloon, a paper cup, 5 pieces of string each cut 16 inches long, tape, markers or crayons for decorating. Decorate the paper cup. Tape one end of 4 pieces of string to the upper side of the cup (space the strings out equally around the cup.) Tape the other end of the strings to the balloon (tape halfway down the balloon at it’s widest part also spacing equally around the balloon.) Make a loop with the 5th piece of string and tape it to the top of the balloon. Hang your “hot air” balloon with the loop. Perhaps you’d like to add a figure to the cup. A pig would be great!
COLORING PAGE: Print the attachment and decorate with crayons, paint, stickers or whatever inspires you!
